IS DECEPTION THE NEW CASTLE?!




Remember Castle with the wonderfully talented Nathon Fillion about a writer who gets to solve crimes with the NYPD? Well, we’re getting a rehash of that, except this time it’s seemingly talented magician joining the FBI. I have to say, I quite like the premise, especially as it stars both Ilfenesh Hadera and Amaury Nolasco from the Prison Break series. Neither one of whom is the magician in question by the way.

You can tell, where this series is going to go: the magician is going to grow on the FBI agents who have to babysit him and Ilfenesh Hadera’s character is possibly going to fall in love with him. Hopefully, they don’t take as many seasons as it took Castle to get to that threshold.


The premise for Castle in hindsight, might have seemed like a bad idea fit for a 90s comedy movie, but we gobbled it up based off the performance of its cast, even when it began to run into very familiar territory. Here’s hoping ABC’s Deception can go beyond just been another you-know-what-that-was-just-a-bad-idea-for-a-series series.

THE PROBLEM WITH IRON FIST

With The Defenders trailer out, (check it out here ), we're just months away from the team-up we've been waiting for, but before we get there, let's talk about the last lead up to it, Iron Fist. The only sore in the Defenders line-up. What went wrong and was it really that bad? Here's my review on it: Marvel’s latest Netflix series, Iron Fist has gotten some flack from critics and fans and it’s somewhat understandable. Aside from the fact that lots of fans were clamouring for an Asian character (despite the character always being White) to portray the hero, the storyline has some problems that really has nothing to do with race, but rather a lack of intrigue. The first 10-15 minutes of Iron Fist is an amazing setup to a good Iron Fist movie we’ll never get to see. There’s also a great setup for the villain in Harold Meachum, which would’ve worked better for a one and half hour movie, but this is a Netflix series of 13 episodes, so things have to get dragged…

HOUSE OF CARDS: SEASON 5 REVIEW

In its first three episodes, season five of House of Cards plays like a caricature of itself. We’ve seen all the beats on display here. HoC began to fall into a deep dive midway through its third season, but managed to gain some much needed momentum in its fourth. By now all the tricks have been exposed. Underwood is a god, even if at times a struggling one, but his infallibility is the fallibility of the show. Once its strength, it’s now starting to be the show’s weakness. On many past seasons, the show’s writer could’ve brought Underwood down, even if so slightly, but we forgave them every time they didn’t. Now, it’s beginning to be ludicrous. That said, his infallibility does provide for some great TV still. Perhaps the best part about the season is the supporting cast in Neve Campbell’s LeAnn Harvey, Campbell Scott’s Mark Usher and newcomer, Korey Jackson’s Sean Jeffries.
